Hydrogen Cyanide Breakthrough Indicator Inline | HCN Filter Saturation Indicator

The Hydrogen Cyanide Breakthrough Indicator Inline (PN: 626) is a qualitative, colorimetric indicator that gives real-time indication of hydrogen cyanide (HCN) gas passing through a carbon adsorber or filtration system. Installed directly inline, it changes color from yellow to orange when the filter becomes saturated, letting operators replace filters based on actual breakthrough rather than a fixed schedule.

It is a colorimetric indicator that turns from yellow to orange when hydrogen cyanide (HCN) filters reach saturation. It is a qualitative colorimetric indicator built to give real-time, yes/no indication of hydrogen cyanide gas breaking through a carbon adsorber or scrubber.

It installs directly inline using ¾-inch MNPT inlet and outlet connections. Once the protective red plugs are removed to activate it, the indicator monitors continuously and shifts from yellow to orange as the filter becomes exhausted, a brownish-orange shade signals high HCN concentrations or high humidity conditions. This lets maintenance teams replace carbon absorbers based on actual saturation instead of guesswork or a calendar-based schedule.

Continuous Filter Saturation Monitoring

Once activated, the BTI Inline provides continuous, real-time monitoring for the life of the carbon absorber. The color change is easy to spot during routine inspections, giving a clear, immediate signal that it’s time to replace the filter, no lab analysis or additional equipment needed.

Note on cross-interferences: Hydrogen chloride and hydrogen sulfide can impede the hydrogen cyanide indicator. No other known interferences or limitations apply.

BTI Inline Protective Sleeve

To ensure optimal performance in outdoor environments, the BTI Inline Indicator should be used with the BTI Inline Protective Sleeve, which protects the indicator from sunlight and excessive heat. The protective sleeve is available and sold separately. [View BTI Inline Protective Sleeve]

Applications

The Hydrogen Cyanide Breakthrough Indicator Inline is suitable for use with:

  • Carbon adsorbers
  • Carbon scrubbers
  • Chemical manufacturing facilities
  • Electroplating operations
  • Mining and metal processing
  • Industrial ventilation systems
  • Laboratory exhaust systems
  • Hydrogen cyanide (HCN) filtration applications

Installation Instructions

  1. Ensure the sealed pouch is intact before use.
  2. Open the packaging pouch by tearing off the top from one of the side notches.
  3. Remove the BTI Inline from the pouch.
  4. Remove the protective red plugs to activate the indicator.
  5. Caution: only hand-tighten the indicator into tubing.
  6. Replace the carbon absorber once the indicator changes color to orange (or brownish-orange under high HCN concentrations or high humidity).

Key Benefits

  • Real-time, qualitative (yes/no) indication of HCN breakthrough
  • Clear yellow-to-orange color change
  • Easy inline installation with ¾” MNPT connections
  • Helps maximize filter service life by replacing on actual saturation, not a fixed schedule
  • Compatible with carbon adsorbers and carbon scrubbers
  • Simple hand-tighten installation, no tools required
  • Cost-effective, low-maintenance filter monitoring
